Most of the bear encounters shown here happened in Kananaskis Country. Bears — grizzlies and black bears — in Kananaskis Country and the Canadian Rockies. Everything else, about 90% of the photographs, around Cochrane: ponds, lakes, wetlands, meadows and forests.

With respect, from a safe distance and in compliance with wildlife regulations. No image is worth disturbing an animal.
Sensitive locations may be withheld when disclosure could add pressure to wildlife or habitat.
Keep a minimum distance of 100 metres, give every bear an escape route, and never approach or feed a bear for a photograph. Carry bear spray where it is immediately accessible.
About
My name is Chris Gornisiewicz and I live in Cochrane, Alberta, Canada — a beautiful town with stunning mountain views, just half an hour from Kananaskis Country.
Wildlife photography is my hobby and my great passion. For 7 years — 5 of them seriously — I have been photographing the wild residents of Alberta and the Canadian Rockies: grizzly bears and black bears in Kananaskis Country, and birds, moose and other animals at the ponds, lakes, wetlands, meadows and forests around Cochrane. What I enjoy photographing most are bears and moose — the grizzly, the black bear and the moose are my favourite subjects.
I photograph with Nikon gear, always with respect for the animals — every bear and moose photograph on this site was taken from a safe distance, in full compliance with wildlife regulations.
Originally from Bochnia, Poland, I have lived in Canada since 2008. For decades, tennis was my way of life — until an injury ended my tennis adventure around 2013. Photography filled that space, giving me a world of excitement and deep satisfaction. These days, my wife Margaret and I also share a passion for pickleball.
Beyond photography, I admire the figure of Leonardo da Vinci, love the paintings of Salvador Dalí, the music of RUSH, and the books of Dan Brown.
Thank you for visiting — I hope my photographs bring you as much joy as taking them brings me.
“Someone once told me: the moment you start selling your photographs, it stops being your passion and hobby — it becomes business. That's why my photographs are not for sale.”
“Parks, forests, meadows, lakes and ponds — this is wildlife's home. Let's respect it.”
